Terms of Service

Last updated: 17 May 2026

These Terms govern your use of Chambers ("the Service"), operated by AskLex ("we", "us"). By creating an account or signing in you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering a binding contract. If you're using Chambers on behalf of an organization, you confirm you're authorised to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. Your account

  • You're responsible for keeping your password (or Google account) secure.
  • You must use a real email and accurate information.
  • Don't share accounts. Each user must have their own.
  • You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.

3. Acceptable use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use Chambers to break any law in your jurisdiction.
  • Upload documents you don't have the right to process (e.g. stolen, unauthorised attorney–client material).
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer the Service, our models, or our infrastructure.
  • Scrape, mirror, or resell the Service.
  • Use the Service to generate spam, fraud, or content that infringes third-party rights.
  • Probe, scan, or attack our infrastructure, or use it to attack others.

4. AI-generated content

Chambers uses large-language models (Anthropic's Claude family) to assist your legal work. AI output is not legal advice and must be reviewed by a qualified professional before being relied on. We cannot guarantee citations are current, complete, or correct — always verify against the primary source.

5. Your data, your IP

  • You retain all rights in the documents you upload and the work product you generate.
  • You grant us a limited license to host, process, and display your content solely to provide the Service.
  • We will not use your customer documents to train AI models without your explicit, per-workspace opt-in.
  • Aggregated, fully-anonymised usage metrics may be used to improve the Service.

6. Plans, billing, refunds

  • Paid plans renew monthly or annually as selected. Cancel any time from Billing.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. We don't pro-rate refunds for partial periods.
  • If you exceed your plan's caps, you can buy overage packs or upgrade. We won't disable your account without warning.
  • Annual plans paid in advance: refundable within 14 days if you haven't used the Service materially.

7. Suspension + termination

We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms, after a reasonable warning where appropriate. You can close your account any time. On closure we delete your customer data within 30 days, except where law requires us to retain it longer (audit log retention is governed by our Privacy Policy).

8. Warranties + disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is". We don't warrant that Chambers will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any AI output is accurate. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, AskLex's total liability arising out of these Terms or your use of the Service is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Colombo, except where local consumer-protection law gives you a different forum.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms. We'll email you at least 30 days before any material change. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the new Terms.
